Elso benyomasok Braziliarol, meg 2007-ben....My first impressions about Brazil (back in 2007)...

Vissza tehat Braziliara, elso benyomas: a levego szaga. Imadom.

Nyami.

Ahhhhhh

Otodik benyomas: Hangzavar. Huhh. Na, az volt/van boven. Kutya a haznal, amely persze ugat, szekreny nagysagu hangfal raerositve a csomagtartora (egy utcaban tobb ilyen is van) akar sorozo, akar fagyizo csutkara csavart zenegeppel. Mikor visszajottunk Londonba ket napig zugott a fulem, utana viszont zavart a csend.

Hatodik benyomas: Szegenyseg.

I visited Brazil first time in my life in 2007 and my first impression was that everything was so different. It`s a bit difficult to describe, and I thought Brazil was similar to other mediterranean countries in Europe, like Spain or Italy. (I haven`t been to Portugal yet). Well, I could not have mistaken higher. Brazil is different. You just feel it is not Europe any more but something more exotic. Maybe the air, maybe the buildings, the environment or people, but in any case it was very exciting to discover the place and found how people were living there and what they thought (or what was their idea) about Europe. Since my husband family is from countryside, for them I was the exoticism itself (and vice versa) and they looked at me as a miracle, a person from Europe - it was quite an unusual happening there. (I have to mention, the same happened when we lived in Hungary, in my neighbourhood, people came to visit us just to see "Eclezio from Brazil").

Okay, so here we go, my very first impressions about Brazil:

1. The smell of the air. I love it. The smell of the warm air, the moist soil after rain, the smell of ethyl alcohol on the motorway, the plants and the pervasive smell of fruits and finally the smell of the sea. Since then, anytime when we land, I just keep "inhaling" for half an hour, just to smell the air and enjoy it, while the others are chatting.

2. Guarana and pastel: I tasted Guarana drink in London before but the real thing, the freshly fried pastel filled in with palm heart was the best, mainly when we ate it on the beach. (the fish and chips of Brazil, haha) Then of course came the others: exotic fruits such as guava, carambola, mango and jaca, freshly squeezed orange juice wherever you go, Rodizio steak houses and freshly fried seafood, again, on the beach. Yummy.

3. Waiiiiting and waitiiing! Oh my Godness, I never waited for so long for people in my life like in Brazil. Whether it's a meeting or a formal administration, or a doctor, I felt I was left to just wait and wait and wait ... and when I had all the patience ran out, the coffee was out of the machine and the sun went down, well, from THAT point there was only one more hour to wait. Ahhhhh....

4. Joy and smile: People are very nice and helpful in Brazil. When they smile they mean it and always start conversation with the one sitting next to them. Taking the long waiting everywhere into account, no wonder.  I think the heat and sunshine also count, although not a necessary condition for someone to be nice.

5. Constant noise: Wow. Now, that was plentiful. Dog of the house, which of course was barking, cupboard sized speaker mounted on the cars, maximum sound either in pubs or patisserie. When we came back to London, my ears were buzzing for two days, but after that I was disturbed by the silence.

6. Poverty. I'm not blind, I saw and I can see the conditions how parts of people have to live, I could see the slams which was shocking to European eyes. It`s not a pleasure when I read or hear about corruption and crime, but I try to extract myself not to settle on the daily lives and accept the fact that the public safety here is very different from what I am accustomed to.

7. Which is not an impression, but a feeling that I always want to go back there and that I feel less and less to stay at the old continent.

Egy kicsit magamrol...A little bit about me...

Mar koran megfertozott a latin-amerikai ritmus, a Salsa cimu filmet, ami egy puerto rico-i tancosrol szol ezerszer megneztem. Kedvenc volt a listamon a Bueno Vista Social Club is.
Gyerekkent jatszottam hangszeren csak, (csello), es sajnos valahol a tinedzser evek tajan elvesztettem vele a kapcsolatot. A ferjem mar nem gyerekkent, hobbibol tanult szaxofonozni es gitarozni is, latni is a kulonbseget. :-)  A zene azota is kozponti szerep nalunk, foleg a latin-amerikai zene.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My name is Cecilia and I grew up in a little neighborhood, called Gyongyossolymos and I spent my first 23 years there. Later I moved to Budapest where I graduated as an economist and started to work in a commercial bank. I moved to London in 2006 mainly to improve my English and to find new opportunities in my profession and excitement in life.

I had been to London in 2004 as a tourist and it was a pleasure to think back to these times when I was already working in the City few years later.

I met with my husband in 2007, who was Brazilian and at that time I didn`t know too much about Brazil except the usual things, like samba, carnival and football. When we first started talking, I knew straight away I met with the right person because of so many common interest. We both liked music, we both used to play music instruments, we liked the same style of movies, we found out that usually liked doing the same things, for example long sleeping on the weekends, going out with friends, reading, walking in the park etc...

We met at a Brazilian place called Guanabara Club and later we often went out to Salsa! Bar near Tottenham Court road. It was an important point in my life as this place was linked to my very first experience of Brazilian culture and it`s called "forro" [foho] music. I fell in love with this music style and from that point I was crazy to know more about Brazil, listen more music and watch movies, discover singers, movie starts and so on. I love music of Luis Gonzaga, Jorge Aragao, Zeca Pagodino and Daniela Mercury, and also Falamansa, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Beth Carvalho and Marisa Monte. Fortunately my husband likes samba, forro, pagode and bossa nova as well.
I was also interested in every Brazilian related thing including history, customs and traditions, gastronomy, language and people.

So our story started in London at Guanabara Club, carried on at Salsa Bar and this blog is written for the purpose to tell how we will find our final(?) destination on the land of samba, in Brazil.

Guanabara, London, 2007

Megvannak a jegyek!!!! We got the flying tickets!!!

Igy tehat most, es mar csak 12 het maradt a kovetkezo nagy kalandig :-)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Eclezio is going to fly on 9th February, while Caio and me are leaving UK on 24th April. This will be the first time that we are going to spend so much time far from each other but in this case I don`t really mind. My mum is staying with us until April and helps me around Caio while I work. Loads of things need to be arranged in Brazil and here, and it is even better if we don`t bother each other. Eclezio will be enough busy with flat and job searching issues, and as for me, I need to terminate our flat rent contract, close utility bills, make the furniture removed and say goodbye to my best friends.
It is very exciting for the whole even if it won`t be the first time for us to spend longer period in Brazil. This time we are going "for good". Of course I said few times in the past that it would be DEFINITELY our last moving and then, here we are again...
At the moment I just feel happy for small things, like sunshine, warm weather, the short distance to the beach, that even the air has the smell of the ocean, that we will always be surrounded by relatives and friends and that I am going to eat tons of fruits every day.
In addition, I am very happy that I am going to speak a new language in living environment; it`s always very exciting to notice how your language skills is improving. First you just gibber and look for the proper words and sweat like hell during a 15 minutes conversation. This then improves to a smoother chat and sweating won`t be an issue anymore until you find yourself talking and talking more fluently and notice that you didn`t think of any grammar and vocabulary related thing in the last one hour. Great feeling for sure! :-)
I also cannot wait to see Caio being happy in Brazil and find new friends in his new school and regarding language I think I won`t need to listen so many different accents and find out what and how people mean things based on their religion and own cultural background. Of course, me as a foreigner will face with all above for sure but maybe not with every single person, but nation-wise.
That`s all for now, and let`s start counting back...only 12 weeks to go, yey!!
