Hello from Santos!: Ejfelkor a parton...Midnight at the beach...

Considering the previous days` rainy weather, we had a good chance to get rain on the last day of the year too but we were seemed to be lucky dogs this time as not even one drop rain fell from the sky on that day.

It was a really humid, hot and muggy day, with that type of air when you swim in sweat as soon as you move a bit. It was more bearable in an air-conditioned place of course, but whoever wanted to spend time on the beach couldn`t avoid the wave of the heat.

Obviously, alcohol made it even worse as this year we decided to have caipirinha instead of champagne so I made a jar of ice cold caipirinha drink that we later took to the beach. I tasted it few times though during the day and celebrated new year in Hungary via Skype with my mum at 9pm.
Thanks for keeping the alcohol consumption on a certain level, by that time we left the house I was sweating so much, that I looked as if just came from the swimming pool. There wasn`t a single dry surface on my skin.

We live 15-20 walking distance from the beach and left the house after 11pm. The streets were full as most of the people decided to leave at the same time so we were walking with the crowd in high spirits towards the beach.
Many people were wearing white (to have luck, happy life and health in the year) or yellow financial luck) or the combination of these two.

Fortunately as closest we got to the beach the breeze from the ocean refreshed us a bit but the temperature was still over 30 degrees. The atmosphere was very good, people were chatting and laughing, children were playing everywhere. The only thing I was missing was music, actually, as no concert were organized but not even a musician was seen playing guitar or something like that.

We walked into the water and saw five cargo ships far waiting for the time when they could start the fireworks. Although countdown was not projected anywhere but one minute before midnight the huge reflectors became witched off and soon after we heard: Cinco! Quatro! Tres! Dois! Um!... Yeyyyyy! and the fireworks started. It was amazing! It took for 17 minutes and it is said it was the second biggest firework in Brazil after Rio.

After the firework people started to head to the water to appease Lemanja, the Goddess of the Sea and the Mother of Waters, with gifts such as throwing flowers towards the sea as well as lighting some candles on the sand.
Good luck could also be increased if you jump over seven different waves while making your New Year`s wishes, one for each wave and we did it - just in case.

As we started to walk home we again joined to the crowd - only teenagers and young adults stayed, probably waiting for the sunrise.

PS: it seems that we were really lucky that it was not raining on that day as since than it hasn`t stopped raining yet...
