Tavaly oktoberben irtam egy bejegyzest a fenti cimen es ezt most folytatva, kiegeszitem a sajat tapasztalataimmal is. Kezdjuk megint (szegeny) pizzaval:

Meleg orszag Brazilia, a pizzasuto kemenceket csak delutan 6 utan gyujtjak be, addig ne is gondoljunk pizzara, meg elvitelre sem, mert nincs. De a viccet felreteve, itt egyszeruen nem szokas pizzat enni ebedre. A brazilok szamara az ebed husbol, rizsbol, babbol es zoldsegekbol all, a pizza pedig nem felel meg ennek a kriteriumnak, igy csak vacsorara fogyasztjak.
Ugyanez a helyzet a levessel is, mert vannak am nekik nagyon finom leveseik is, de azokat inkabb csak a teli idoszakban fogyasztjak, addig ettermekben nem lehet kapni levest.

2. Reggeli vacsorara
Van az ugynevezett "Cha da tarde", vagyis delutani tea etterem, aminek a kinalata gyakorlatilag reggelizo bufebol all. Brazilos reggelire, vagyis vacsorara kell szamitani, van tobbfele peksutemeny, edes-lekvaros linzer, hussal toltott tesztabatyu, torta, kave, tea, tej, vaj, felvagott, sajt es sokfele gyumolcs illetve gyumolcsle. Keszpenzt egyebkent sem erdemes magunknal tartani itt, a kartyas fizetes mindenhol megoldhato (kiveve a sao paulo-i metroban).

Itt europaikent egy teljesen mas eletritmushoz kell hozzaszokni. A nagy tavolsagok es a kozlekedesi dugok miatt hetkoznap az emberek nagyon koran indulnak dolgozni es nagyon keson ernek haza. Ehhez meg hozzajon az, ha munka mellett tanulnak, az esti iskolakban hetkoznap este 11-ig tart az oktatas.
Szombaton es vasarnap keso estig van orvosi maganrendeles, iskolai vizsgak. A gyerekek sokszor ejfelig jatszanak a lent a teren, es a szulinapok is csak este 8-kor kezdodnek.

Az Europaban oly gyakori tavolsagtartas, az erdektelenseg, a huvos viselkedes, az individualizmus itt nem letezik, az emberek nagy tobbsege borzasztoan empatikus, baratsagos es befogado. Kevesebbet vannak sajat magukkal elfoglalva, inkabb mas emberek sorsan, vagy az orszag egeszen sajnalkoznak, bar az is igaz, hogy ebbol adodoan eleg sokat politizalnak, es jobban foglalkoztatjak oket a kozeleti esemenyek (es a korrupcio).

Ez a helyi csatorna-rendszer sajatossagabol alakult ki, mivel a csatornak itt keskenyebbek es egyszeruen nem birjak elszallitani a nagy mennyisegu papirt es hamar eldugulnak.

I wrote a post last October about things that gringos find strange in Brazil and this time I would add my ow experiences too. Let`s start with the "pizza issue" again:
1. You cannot buy pizza before 6pm
Brazilians don`t consider pizza as a sort of proper dish, hence they don`t eat it for lunch. For them, lunch meal should include meat, rice, bean and cooked or fresh vegetables.
Same thing with soups. They got used to eat soups during winter period only, so in summer restaurants don`t sell soups.
2. Breakfast or afternoon tea for dinner
Last year I was invited to a restaurant called "Cha da trade", or Afternoon tea for dinner. This restaurant serves only breakfast meals, a variety of pastries, scones, cakes, toast-bread, ham, butter and cheese. It`s a very chic place with elegant interior and porcelain dinner set. A different experience for having dinner for sure.
3. Politics and public affairs between 7 and 8pm
Radios air only political and public affairs between 7 and 8pm everyday. There is no music, or hit chart, only talking. Either you can listen or change to CD for that one hour if you are not interested.
4. Citibank account only for premium customers
The other day I popped in to Citibank to open a current account where to my surprise I learned that Citi in Brazil is only for customers with more than R$ 5000 income per month (the average wage is about R$ 2500). Well, as being an English teacher, currently my income is less than that so I had to give up the idea to have an account with Citibank here for a while. The customer service officer was very kind though and expressed her sorry for a billion times and we agreed that I would return once my income would reach the magical R$ 5K.
After that I went to Itau Bank to open an account because:
5. I am totally fed up with Caixa
It`s not enough that I always have to queue for hours to withdraw cash or speak with the customer service officer but the internet banking system blocks my access every month referring for safety. Which I understand and it`s good that they do take care of data protection but this deactivation happens all the time when I have to pay utility bills online and every time I have to go to the bank to re-activate it.
6. You cannot withdraw cash from ATM between 10pm and 6am
I guess no need to mention, it is due to public safety. Less people on the street during this time, hence easier to get observed and get robbed.
7. Life rhythm is different
Due to huge distances and the ongoing traffic jams, days start sometimes very early and finish late for most of the Brazilians. Because of busy weekdays, all of remaining programmes, commitments and scheduled appointments remain for late hours or for the weekends. You can have appointment with private GP at 8-9pm for instance, or take school exams on Sunday. Children stay up until midnight, birthdays are scheduled after 7-8pm.
8. Driving in Brazil - be careful with the motorcyclist!
I could write a whole post about crazy driving behaviour in Brazil but now I just mention the motorcyclists: they are just everywhere! They don`t stand in line, running in between the cars and making it hard to switch lanes. It`s typical when drivers wait for their turn in the crossroad and the motorcyclist just passes next to car not giving priority causing a very accident close dangerous situation.
9. Patience, smile, friendliness and infinite empathy
If you have strong empathy towards people, if you are sensitive to other people`s problem, if you care what goes on in your country and have your say about it, and also, if you are sensitive of people`s behave, then most probably you will feel good in Brazil.
The great majority of people here are tremendously supportive, kind and empathetic. Individualism is not typical, they are less preoccupied with themselves as Europeans.
They do care and talk a lot about politics though and the issue of corruption is always a subject to discuss.
10. Going to toilet in Brazil
In Brazil bathrooms have trash bins next to the toilet where you put used toilet papers. This habit is due to their unique sewing system that simply wouldn`t be able to cope with the huge amount of papers and toilets can clog with paper.
And here comes the question: whether after 30+ years of flushing used toilet paper whether I could adopt to this local habit or not? My answer is so-so. At home, we don`t have trash bin but at public places or friends` house where I can see bins, I do use it. I wouldn`t risk namely to clog other people`s toilet, so I follow their habits.
